Charles Jeremiah Mowery, Jr., 87 of Reading, passed away April 22 in Penn State Health St. Joseph. Born August 26, 1929 in Shamokin, he was the husband of Joann M. (Zimmerman) Mowery, who he married 62 years ago on August 26, 1954. Charles was a son of the late Margaret (Martin) and Charles J. Mowery, Sr.
Following high school, Charles (Doughy) joined the US Navy, where he served for nine years. He then became a mechanic in the trucking industry, where he worked for over 30 years as a member of the Teamsters before retiring in 1995.
Charles’ greatest passions including hunting and fishing, and he was a long-time member of Mohnton Fish and Game. But family was everything to Charles, and he will be greatly missed by those he loved and who loved him.
In addition to Joann, he is survived by his daughter Suzanne, wife of Dale Fisher of Leesport and his son Charles S. Mowery, husband of Rosemary, of Reading. Also surviving are his grandchildren Jessica Miller of Muhlenberg and Mary Jo Chirieleison, of Reading, and five great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his sisters Margaret Hale and Bessie Hale, and a brother Harold Mowery.
