William J. Marquardt, 80, formerly of Royersford and Spring City, PA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 21, 2017 in his residence at Country Meadows, Wyomissing. Born September 25, 1937 in Pottstown, Bill was a son of the late William and Marion (Betz) Marquardt. He was predeceased by his two wives: Sandra Mae (Gottshall) Marquardt, with whom he was married for 20 years, and most recently by Marie (Bunch) Marquardt, with whom he was married for 30 years.
Bill was a proud graduate of the last class of Royersford High School in 1955, where he was a member of the football team. He was a Boy Scout and an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting deer and turkey, and fishing, camping and his log cabin mountain home on the peaceful Conococheague Trail of Blain, Perry County, PA.
In his spare time, Bill loved gardening and enjoyed watching sports, especially football and NASCAR. He also enjoyed traveling, family vacations and listening to music, especially Johnny Cash.
Bill served his country proudly in the US Marines and was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. He was also a member of New Germantown United Methodist Church in Blain, and Salt Springs Christian Church, Salt Springs, FL.
Bill worked in electrical maintenance, last working for Superior Tube in Collegeville, prior to retiring.
A true “Snow Bird,” Bill enjoyed his winter home in Salt Springs, FL with Marie and his trusty sidekick Henry Wadsworth Longfellow by his side.
Bill is survived by his three daughters: Susan (Krumenacker), wife of Chris of Myrtle Beach, SC; Carolyn Marquardt and her companion Hank Steigerwalt of Shoemakersville, PA; and Joyce (Korman) wife of Andrew of Pottstown, PA. He is also survived by his brother Fred Marquardt of Salt Springs, FL.
Also surviving are four step children: Andrew (Karen) Clifford, Lorraine (Keith) Wellington, Lois (Jay) Moyer and Alice (Scott) Umstead, six grandchildren: Christopher and Natalie Krumenacker, Erica and Steven Varady, Jonah and Daniel Korman, two great grandchildren, and numerous step grandchildren, step great grandchildren and step great-great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a stepson Paul Clifford.
Bill’s family will receive friends at the Hope Community Church, 2732 N. Charlotte Street, Gilbertsville, PA, on Friday, January 5, 2018 at 11am, with a memorial service to follow.
